February 17, 2019 – Civil Society & Steam Hose for Craft Girls Beer & Body Palm Beach County Meetup

My friend had mentioned the day before perhaps I should consider checking out Civil Society’s new location in West Palm Beach since it was close to Steam Horse. I thought it was a good idea. I had looked up their website and it said they opened at 11 a.m.

I was glad to have been given the Prosperity Brewers shirt by Dom yesterday since I had unexpectedly spent the night at a friends and didn’t have anything with me and I certainly didn’t want to wear the “All Day I Dream About Stout” mainly since I had purposefully worn it yesterday.

Getting to Civil Society at 11 a.m., the doors weren’t open. So I messaged Civil Society, they advised it was an error on their website which they would be working to get corrected, so they actually open at 12 p.m., on Sundays. I sat in my car for an hour reading a beer magazine I left in my car for these situations.

Once it was a few minutes to 12 p.m., I got up and stood by the door. Someone else did too as they I noticed had gotten there not too long after I did and voiced the same thing, they got there at 11 a.m., since that is what the website said.

Once the doors opened I ran up the stairs and walked to the bar and sat my happy as down for beer. I looked at the menu, I had seen they had BA Bella, though I wasn’t certain if that was only at the Jupiter location or perhaps they had sold out of it. So I opted for J Town Brown, 6%, Brown ale. I enjoyed this for breakfast. It had some slight roasty/chocolate flavors.

After having a few sips of beer, I decided to take a few pictures of what it looks like.

John, one of the beertenders there mentioned that they may be planning to put glass garage doors and also put an outdoor patio or something along those lines.

I started to get hungry so I ordered food via Ubereats from Don Ramon Cuban Restaurant, bistec empanizado with white rice, black beans and yucca. I was excited when my food arrived, though it started to dwindle a little when I tried looking all thru the bag for some type of plastic fork, spoon or knife. There wasn’t any. Civil Society certainly didn’t have any. So I ate my food with my hands. I was disaapointed I didn’t have any limes to squeeze on top of my steak, so off with the breading! I pulled the steak apart with my hands. I realized my using my fingers to get rice wasn’t going to be too effective, though it was effective for the yucca since I could break pieces apart. For the black beans I used the top of the container to scoop them out into my mouth.

The beertender John mentioned that he thought I adapted/did pretty well to adjusting to eating without the use of anything. I remarked, that’s what life is about, adapting and trying to figure it out. The beertenders here were friendly, nice and you could have a conversation with them (if they weren’t taking care of customers).

I didn’t snap a picture since I was too damn hungry. I than ordered the Perspective, 5.4%, which is their Kolsch. It was enjoyable, light and smooth with tropical notes.

I left Civil Society once I saw it was getting closer the meet up time of 3:00 p.m. Onto, Steam Horse Brewing! It is a mile or less away from Civil and getting here was easy.

Going into Steam Horse, I wasn’t aware if anyone was there, I know Lauren, was going to be there, so as I saw her post on facebook, I mentioned I was there. I ordered the Pucker Factor, 4%, described as “Kettle sour loaded with tons of fresh raspberries and lemon zest.” This is a well made Berliner Weisse, it had good fruit (raspberry) flavor, it was tart, and was very enjoyable. After having the Kolsch, it was nice to have some tartness and it was refreshing.

I wasn’t aware that there were two ladies already there since I had not previously met them. So after seeing Lauren walk in she mentioned they were at a table and pointed to the location, walked away from the bar and went over to join them.

Their names were Danielle and Millika. Lauren mentioned that her family would be joining us. I sat next to Lauren and chatted with her for a bit. I loved her shirt! It says “No Crap on Tap”.

The shirt Lauren was wearing was was made by Millika, who has a T-shirt business called “Tipsy Tanks”. I felt like I need to buy one of these shirts from her when I can, because I love it! And she has other awesome beer and drinking shirts available. It was nice to learn that Danielle too has a business, this one of the adult kind! wink wink which is with Discreetly Dirty, and you can contact her directly for things.

After a bit Cameo and Lauren’s family joined the fun. Danielle and Millika are really good friends and it was great hearing their stories, things they have done together. I also got some tattoo artists recommendations from Millika which is great! I think Danielle and Millika were essentially the life of the party, hilarious, wonderful women that I’m glad I was able to meet this day!

After finishing with Pucker Up, I had asked for a sample of Suave Saison and Lover’s Lager. I thought the Saison was good, though there was something about it I wasn’t willing to drink a full pour of. The Lover’s Lager was good, it just had a dryness to it, which I didn’t quite like, though aside from the dryness, I liked the flavor. So I asked if I could do half and half, of each of them together in a glass, to which, I got what I asked for and I Was happy with.

I think in mixing them together, the Saison helped the dryness of the Lager, and the flavors that are described of each, went well together. I can say I thoroughly enjoyed this mix of, half Suave Saison, 5.6%, farmhouse ale, brewed with chamomile and fresh local citrus, subtle notes of lemon and grapefruit zest, and Lover’s Lager, 5.3%, flagship lager dosed with watermelon and blueberries.

We moved seats and then ended up having to move again since where we were sitting, there was a band coming in that what the spot where they setup/play. So we moved to the right corner and I think this was a great picture of most of us, as we are missing Lauren’s mom, she was the one who took the photo.

The beertenders here were also nice, friendly and pretty accommodating (as we asked them to take some pictures of us a few times).

Cameo had taken the Brightline up since she doesn’t live in the area, and I had offered to take her home so she could hang out longer as well as visit the food hall nearby, Grandview Public Market, because why not do it all while up here?

Some point after the above photo, Lauren and then her family left, and Danielle, Millika, Cameo and myself headed to get food at the Grandview Market.

I once again forgot to snaps pics of the food, though there was chips and guacamole from Zipito’s which was good. I ordered beef gyozas and ramen noodles and broth, both were really good too.

I took Cameo home and then I went home. It was an awesome day! I got to meet new craft beer ladies, who are amazing! Hang out with Cameo and Lauren who are also amazing! And hung out with Lauren’s family which was really cool, plus not to mention, Lauren’s mom drinks craft beer.

I have to say, I’m a little jealous of that.
