February 23, 2019 – Invasive Species, Craft Girls Beer & Body Miami/Broward Meetup

When I got to Invasive Species, Mel was sitting at the table with Dana. I went to go order a beer at the beer and asked for a sampler of Keyser Soze which is a coffee stout and Shogun an imperial sweet stout, the beertender, whose name I didn’t catch slid them down the bar towards me. The Keyser Soze reminded me more of a porter since it was more light bodied than the Shogun.

I opted for Shogun. Imperial Sweet Stout, 9%, described as “Chocolate, vanilla, coffee and coconut abound in this velvety stout that starts sweet but finishes balanced by dark roasted malts. A dessert-like dream in a glass.”

I disagree about this being a “dessert-like dream in a glass”, I’ve had better beers than this that make me think that, this one, not so much. It is definitely velvety/heavy bodied mouth feel. I get the coffee. It does finish with dark roasted malts, which is why I thought there should have been more flavor in this, I think the darker malts take over a lot earlier than it should in regards to being able to enjoy all the flavors in this for me.

When I came back to the Table, Frances was there. We have a great time talking to together or having individual conversations.

There happened to be a food truck there called, Beachin’ Tacos, I had looked at the food menu and they all sounded good, having eaten tacos earlier in the day I wasn’t too hungry at the time. I did see a tray of tacos end up with Frances’ partner, so I stared at the food for a few seconds, and may I say it looked delicious! I’ll have to try and order one sometime in the future.

For the next beer, I sampled 2 Way Petting Zoo and RickRolled, both Berliner Weisse. The Rickrolled had a little more body to it than the 2 Way, it was a little less tart and had fruit flavor within. Though I opted for the 2-Way Petting Zoo, which is 3%, and described as “Sour ale made with big doses of passion fruit, prickly pear and lime. A jolly rancher in a glass!”

2 Way Petting Zoo

I enjoyed this beer immensely! It was refreshing, it had some tartness to it more than the Rickrolled. It did at first few sips remind me of a jolly rancher. I would drink this one again hands down. I have to debate if this has taken Patsy Cline’s place for a number one as a sour at Invasive or whether they can both share first place in my head.
