I got to Lincoln’s Beard early so I could get a good parking spot and try some beers before the crowd arrived. I sat at the bar and ordered, Riot Spray, Sour Ale, 3.7%,description reads “Pomegranate Tart, Sirens, Moving to Canada”. After having the mead, I thought starting with low abv beer would be in my best interest. This was good, I could taste the pomegranate and the tartness.
As I was drinking Riot Spray, someone came up and was offering some people nearby, BBQ Smoked Pork Burnt Ends. OH MY GOD! This was soooooo fucking delicious! I was very grateful I got to try one. The person who was passing these out happens to have a business, Farmhouse BBQ.
After I was done, I had the good fortune to be able to try these two meads, that he advised I could try some, though he wanted John to try them, so if I was around when he came around and opened them, I could try them. Which as fortune would have it, John came by not too long after. They are made locally by I forgot his name, though he happens to have an Instagram page @Caminoviejomeadery
It was Passionfruit mead aged on maple puncheons and black currant with maple and pecans. They were both delicious! My favorite was the black currant. Again, so glad I got to Lincoln’s Beard early. I was sooo grateful to have been able to try these as well!
The next beer I went for afterwards was Enrique’s Love Potion Materva-Inspired Brown Ale. 5%, collab with Union Beer Store, described on untapped as “Materva-Inspired Brown Ale. Materva is a mate-based soft drink, originally produced and popularized in Cuba prior to the Cuban Revolution. It has been produced in Miami since the 1960s.” It’s a good brown. I felt that there was a little carbonation and materva-like taste to it.Some what soda-like. It had a light body and goo drink-ability.
My friend Cameo arrived, she ordered a beer and not too long after it was time for the first round of contenders to come out and show themselves.
Here’s a few pics..
I also took some video of the first round. Which you can find via Youtube, https://www.youtube.com/user/MissRune
Afterwards, there was a brief intermission. Prior to the second round of contenders they were asking for volunteers to be Judges, I raised my hand and got chosen to be one. I had to stand before my contestant and “Judge” when they had consumed a PB & Jelly sandwich. I could not say my contestant ate one if he was still eating it, only after it has been consumed could I then change the paper I had been given with numbers to the correct amount consumed.
I was lucky to be the Judge for, The Big Librarian of Beers, Bros & BS . I had my friend hold my items, so I didn’t take photos or videos of the second round contenders. I was loving the hilarity of this, the camaraderie and the dry-erase board comments from Union’s Beer Store.
The Big Librarian kept his title and belt, as he consumed 17 sandwiches!!
