I was looking forward to going to tonight’s event at Beat Culture with the Miami Girl’s Pint Night Out. First, I had gone to Beat Culture during a soft opening and they had zero of their beers on tap, they had all guest taps. At least this time around when I went, they had one of their beers on tap, Escoozy, 5%, it’s described as “a crisp Belgian style saison made with Wheat, pilsner malt and a touch of oats.Dry hopped with lemon drop hops and giving notes of grapefruit zest and coriander.
I enjoyed the beer. It’s a middle/average beer. I tasted a little of the grapefruit, to me the coriander wasn’t strong in this, though none the less I’m curious to see what else they will have to offer on their taps, of their own stuff.
The space itself is pretty cool, it’s a two story spot. You walk in and to you right is the brewing stills and such, to your left are some tables in the middle of the space is the bar, if you continue beyond the bar there is more seating space, the restrooms and they have a second story for events and such. One of my conversations led into Coppertail in Tampa, I used them to give some an idea of their space vs. Beat Culture’s space, since she had never been to Coppertail – where Coppertail’s building is two story, looks daunting and uninviting and the seating/tables in my opinion could be better – Beat Culture’s ambiance is more welcoming, it doesn’t look uninviting and it feels cozy.
The beer menu/what was on draft when I went was:
I think it’s good business sense that they are next to a hotel, Day’s Inn. I think down the line/once they start producing more of their own beers, this will help with people coming over more. Perhaps if or when they have their own beer events at their location, people could try and rent a room or have booked a room ahead of time. People who come to Miami for short trips and stay at this hotel without realizing there is a brewery next door, win! They can get a drink next door. Maybe one day Days Inn will also wake up and try to work with them to create deals.
Aside from being a brewery, they also have a food menu. I slacked on taking photos of other people’s food to add photos here. Someone ordered “Flippers” which are “grilled succulent chicken wings covered in a guava buffalo sauce”, they ladies that ate this thought they were good, I didn’t try one as I’m not really a fan of chicken wings, much less ones with bones. “El Choricero” was ordered which is “chorizo topped queso dip served with crispy tortilla chips”. This I tried and I was hooked, I had to stop myself from eating the rest of this. Yum. (I was bad and didn’t take pictures of this to show you.)
One of the co-founders/owners Alan, came over to our table to speak to one of the ladies. While there, I let him know I thought the Wheat Saison was good and I was looking forward to what else they would have, I asked if there was any porters or stouts coming out, he advised there was a porter they were working on, when asked about details for a possible date, well that wasn’t coming out. None the less, I imagine within the next few weeks it’ll be out, I’ll just have to keep a look out on their facebook or instagram to find out.
Before I left, I ended up ordering a Cafecito Flan, which it’s described as “a traditional flan infused with Cuban espresso blending that silky texture with that 3pm pick-me-up.”, so that I could try it later, I love coffee flans and trying them out. Besides, I also used to make flan, so i’ma little snob sometimes and like to critique it in my head.
For me the 16th was bittersweet. It’s my deceased dad’s birthday which hits me every year, though I was overjoyed to be hanging out with my ladies from the Miami Girls Pint Night Out on such a day.
Photo I clearly screenshot’ed from Instagram Miami_GPO:
Side note: After I wrote this, I ended up trying the flan before I published this and the cafecito flan was delicious!
